Robert Horner, RIP

The KCRFU is very sad to report that Robert Horner, our former President, RFU Council member and a former President of the RFU, passed away on Friday 5th July. He had not been in good health since the end of 2022 and had been confined to bed for most of this year.

Robert’s service to our game is unlikely to be surpassed for many years to come. He was President of his club, Sevenoaks RFC and his tenure as President of the RFU coincided, in 2003, with England winning the Rugby World Cup. He was also a leading light in the Kent Society of Rugby Football Union Referees, as well as working tirelessly supporting grass roots sport within the County, through the Kent County Playing Fields Association.

We will miss his guidance on a range of topics related to the RFU and to its regulations. He was a source of wise counsel.

The KCRFU extends its condolence to Robert’s family and to all those at Sevenoaks RFC. We will fondly remember him.

Roger Clarke

Chair, KCRFU

Funeral is on Monday 12th August 2024 – 11.15am at:

Bluebell Cemetery, Old London Rd, Halstead, Sevenoaks TN14 7AE

All our welcome there and at the Wake to be held at Sevenoaks RFC afterwards.
