Assistant Rugby Coach/Player-Coach required.

Role Purpose 

The Assistant Rugby Coach(es) will support the Head Coach in planning and delivering high-quality coaching sessions and matchday preparation. The role focuses on developing players’ technical, tactical, physical, and mental performance while promoting the club’s values and standards. Would suit a higher-level player, looking to develop their coaching. Player-coach may be considered. 

Key Responsibilities 

Coaching & Player Development 

  • Assist in planning and delivering structured, engaging weekly training sessions. 
  • Support the development of game plans and tactical frameworks. 
  • Provide individual and unit-specific coaching (e.g., forwards, backs, defence, attack). 
  • Deliver constructive feedback to players to aid development. 
  • Contribute to player performance analysis and review sessions. 

Matchday Support 

  • Assist with pre-match preparation and warm-ups. 
  • Support in-game management, including tactical adjustments and communication. 
  • Contribute to post-match reviews and analysis. 

Team & Club Contribution 

  • Promote a positive, disciplined, and inclusive team culture. 
  • Support player recruitment and retention initiatives. 
  • Collaborate with strength & conditioning, medical, and other club volunteers. 
  • Uphold RFU regulations, safeguarding standards, and club policies. 

Person Specification 

Essential 

  • Good understanding of rugby union laws, tactics, and player development principles. 
  • Experience playing and/or coaching rugby. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a coaching team. 
  • Experience coaching senior or adult rugby. 
  • RFU Coaching Qualification – minimum ERCA. 
  • If player-coach, significant playing experience at L4 or higher. 

Desirable 

  • RFU Coaching Qualification – ERACA. 
  • Experience in video analysis and performance review. 
  • First Aid and Safeguarding certification. 
  • Specialism around one (or multiple) areas of the game.

Time Commitment 

  • Two evening training sessions per week (typically Monday & Wednesday). 
  • Saturday matchdays during the season.
