Head Coach required For Southwark RFC

Who are we?

We have been pioneering rugby in a diverse part of London with little exposure to the game. Our senior section has experienced considerable success in its short history; rising from level 12, in 2008, to level 8. All 3 teams have won silverware. Our 1st XV are champions of RFU Kent Div 1; playing the 2020/21 season, in RFU London 3. We are not a traditional rugby club, with a cosmopolitan and welcoming player base. Our brand is ‘Ghetto Rugby’ and we are proud of it. We hope you can identify.

What are we looking for?

We want an enthusiastic Head Coach who can communicate good, effective rugby, improve our fitness and keep us in London 3, at the minimum. Someone, to drive our teams forward on the trajectory that has been set.

With planning granted for the development of a floodlit, rugby-ready, 3G pitch; we aim to become one of central London’s rugby hubs. We want candidates with a proven record as either a player or a coach, at a Level 8 club or higher.

The role:

  • Implement a realistic and achievable game plan to keep us in London 3. Lead and deliver 2 engaging training sessions per week, through the season.
  • Attend all 1st XV matches, lead pre-match preparations and strategic decision making during the match.
  • Lead on 1st XV selection each week; liaise with 2nd and 3rd XV captains.
  • Help expand our coaching base.
  • Work with the Chairman and committee to achieve pre-defined goals.
  • Give advice and direction to individual players to help improve their game.
  • Manage the video recording of training attendance.

Candidate requirements:

  • Essential: Enthusiastic, personable and able to command attention.
  • Essential: Qualified to Level 2 or higher.
  • Essential: Experience of coaching and player management at level 8 or higher.
  • Essential: Reliable and fully committed. We will consider short term tenures, if you have a proven record as a player (e.g. ex-Premiership) or as a coach.
  • Ideal: Be forwards based.

What are we offering?

  • A part-time salary based on two training sessions per week and match-day attendance and travel to matches.
  • Help with funding further rugby development.
  • The chance to influence the direction and development of a future central London rugby hub – in an area with very limited exposure to the game.

We are not in a position to offer sponsorship or visas.
