Head Coach
Southwark Rugby is one of only a handful of inner-London clubs serving a large and diverse community. With no current clubhouse, the senior section was founded in 2008 and has experienced considerable success in its short history, rising from Kent leagues 5 to London 3. Next year, we will be in Counties Kent 2.
We are seeking a Head Coach who can provide the knowledge, enthusiasm and capability to push our club forward to the next level of development. Apart from the usual cycle of seniors’ rugby (Tuesdays/Thursdays/Saturdays), we want a coach to drive our program of schools’ engagement, each week. The salary reflects this.
Our location just outside of Elephant and Castle provides the club with a steady stream of talented players with 30 + at training and the ability to field 3 men’s teams every weekend. We are awaiting delivery of a flood-lit, artificial, rugby-ready pitch alongside the retention of our existing grass pitch the club is preparing to become Central London’s rugby hub.
The role:
- Deliver engaging and beneficial training sessions throughout the week.
- to drive schools and community engagement
- Create a coherent and progressive training plan for the club.
- Develop a team of coaches to complement training.
- Work in unison with the club Chairman, to achieve pre-defined goals.
- Define a realistic and achievable game plan for the players to work towards.
- Give advice and direction to individual players to help improve their overall game.
- Champion a pathway for players to be promoted between teams.
- Spot and develop raw talent.
- Have the final say on team selection each week.
- Attend all 1st XV matches, providing team warm-up and strategic decision making during the match.
- Improve seasonal training attendance, make it fun, challenging and beneficial to all.
The Candidate:
- Qualified to Level 2 or higher.
- Experience of coaching and player management at previous level 8 and below.
- Driven with the will to make the club successful.
- Reliable and fully committed.
- Enthusiastic and personable.
- Able to write a seasonal coaching plan that works towards a pre-defined game plan.
- Ideally forwards-oriented.
