Kent County RFU Announces New Development Pathway for Women and Girls

Kent County RFU is pleased to announce significant changes to the women’s and girls’ rugby pathway within the County following a comprehensive review in collaboration with the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

This review comes after the decision of the current Head Coach and Manager of the Under 16 and Under 18 girls’ teams to stand down. Kent would like to express its sincere gratitude to Mark and Laura, whose dedication and hard work have made a tremendous contribution to the development of the teams. Their commitment as volunteers has been invaluable, and we are incredibly grateful for their efforts.

As part of this new phase, Kent County RFU is committed to creating a clear, structured, and developmental pathway for players, coaches, and managers. This is designed to not only enhance the experience of players at all levels but to provide a rewarding environment that will ensure continued growth and success for women’s and girls’ rugby in Kent.

Key Changes to the Pathway:

  1. Coach Recruitment and Development: Kent County RFU will be recruiting coaches for both the U16 and U18 girls’ teams who are either Level 3 qualified (England Rugby Advanced Coaching Award) or aspire to reach this level. There will be a tailored programme of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) sessions specifically for the women’s and girls’ game, in addition to the existing Kent Coaching Development series.
  2. Introducing the Under 20s Group: Recognising the gap between the U18 girls’ teams and the Senior Women’s team, Kent Rugby will introduce an Under 20s group starting next season. This new group will provide a critical bridge for players as they transition from youth rugby to senior rugby. The Senior Women’s Management team has agreed to manage the introduction and implementation of this new age group.
  3. Leadership and Continuity: A new Lead Coach and Manager will be appointed for the U16 and U18 girls’ teams. Additionally, a designated lead person will oversee all age groups to ensure consistency and continuity within the pathway, helping players progress smoothly from one stage to the next.

Kent County RFU is excited about these changes and believes they will create a more structured, supportive, and developmental environment for all players and coaches. We are committed to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure the continued growth of women’s and girls’ rugby in Kent.

Next Steps: In the coming weeks, Kent County RFU will be advertising the roles of Lead Coach and Manager for the U16 and U18 girls’ teams. We encourage applications from qualified individuals who are passionate about developing the next generation of female rugby players.

Further information regarding these upcoming roles, will be posted in due course on Kent County RFU’s website.
