Kent Girls U18 delivered a superb display of resilience and teamwork on Sunday, battling through relentless rain to claim a hard-earned victory against Sussex.
Played in extremely challenging conditions, the match demanded focus, discipline, and determination from the very first whistle. Sussex started strongly, applying early pressure and forcing Kent onto the defensive. Despite moments of attacking promise, Kent went into half-time trailing, with Sussex capitalising on their opportunities.
Whatever was said at the break clearly had an impact.

Kent emerged for the second half with renewed energy and belief, raising both their intensity and accuracy. The forwards laid a powerful platform, while the backs combined with confidence and purpose. Phase by phase, Kent worked their way back into the contest, showing composure and grit despite the slippery conditions.

The turnaround was built on collective effort rather than individual moments — a point perfectly captured by the Head Coach after the game:
“It was a total team performance. Every player contributed, and the girls should feel incredibly proud of how they played and how they responded.”
With momentum shifting, Kent’s defence stood firm under sustained Sussex pressure, while their attack began to find rhythm. Kent’s persistence paid off as they edged ahead, 32 : 21 sealing a deserved win that reflected their work rate, spirit, and unity.
Beyond the action on the pitch, the occasion was made even more special by the outstanding support from the Kent followers, who braved constant rain to cheer the squad on throughout.
Kent Rugby extends sincere thanks to Sussex for their warm hospitality and for providing such competitive opposition.
Sussex’s players were a formidable challenge, and both teams deserve great credit for producing an excellent game in such difficult weather.
