As we enter the second half of the season, we start to look ahead to the Gill Burns County Competition and selecting players to represent the county. The squad that represented the county last season and players in Championship 1 will receive automatic invites to return and trial for the county. This year we are asking coaches to nominate up to 3 players from their club that did not represent county last season to attend trials on Sunday 4th February at Aylesford Bulls.
Players nominated for trials need to be comfortable at playing at a level higher than they currently are as county rugby tends to be a faster and more aggressive game due to the skill set of the players involved. It is a wonderful opportunity for players who might benefit from playing in this environment and is a great way to demonstrate the growth of the women’s game across the county.
The Kent coaches have requested that club coaches consider the following before nominating:
Forwards: Players should be able to take and give passes (short as a minimum). Hookers need to throw accurately, lifters to lift properly (ie to full extension) and jumpers need to be able to jump athletically and to full extension. Back row need to have stamina, support and linking ability.
Backs: Players need to be able to pass of both sides at 85% speed accurately, able to read play in open space, good primary position skills eg stepping, kicking, and able to play 2 positions without any skill reduction.
Trials take place on Sunday 4th February at Aylesford Bulls RFC.
Please submit nominations by Friday 26th January using the link below.
Many thanks,
