Sad passing of Mike Cordell former KCRFU Secretary and RFU Councillor for Kent.

I am very sad to report to our member clubs that Mike Cordell our Secretary for many years and RFU Councillor for some 14 years passed away in hospital in Gibraltar on the 20th July.  His wife and daughters were with him during his last days. Only hospitalised some 3 weeks ago this was a very sudden decline although he had been undergoing treatment for a period.

Mike’s funeral took place in Gibraltar on Thursday 22nd July and was attended by his family and some colleagues from Gibraltar where he worked. It is understood that some form of Memorial Event will be held to remember his life and achievements in the latter half of September and we will keep you updated on this.

Those who knew Mike  personally will miss him greatly for his friendship and his guidance as the County will miss a true servant and Rugby enthusiast and I’m very sorry that I have to convey this news to you at this time. We know you will join us in sending our condolences and support to Mike’s wife Val and his four daughters, Daisy, Holly, Ellie and Natasha.

Roger Clarke.
Chair Kent County Executive Committee
RFU Council Member for Kent.

Very sad and shocked to receive such devastating news. Mike was a true rugby person and a great servant to the game. He worked tirelessly for both the game in general and Kent County in particular but above all a true friend. He will be sadly missed and difficult to replace

John Nunn
KCRFU President

He also chaired the International Rugby Ticket Sub Committee, was the RFU representative on the Students RFU, and served as a Trustee to the RFU pension scheme. Mike was made a distinguished member of the RFU in 2018.
