East Peckham & Paddock Wood Rugby Football Club are delighted to have been invited to represent London and the South East against England’s three other regions in a tournament at the national stadium, Twickenham on bank holiday Monday, 1 May. It gives the squad a chance to run out on the hallowed turf with special places in the members’ room for officials and free entry for some 100 spectators and supporters from each club participating. There is a similar women’s tournament running alongside where London & SE are represented by Dartfordians Ladies. East Peckham & Paddock Wood’s first match kicks off at 10.45am against Leicester Lions 3rds, with further matches against Tavistock Development and Doncaster Phoenix 2nds.
East Peckham were formed in the village in 1977, the late Queen’s Silver Jubilee Year, hence the club’s colours always featuring red, white and blue. In order to broaden their playing base, the club moved to Putlands in 1994 and ten years ago in recognition of their new home, Paddock Wood was added to their club name to link past and future. The club is intensely proud and very excited to be given this once in a lifetime opportunity thanks to the Rugby Football Union promoting grass roots rugby. Over time, they have competed in the Kent Cup (when a local journalist first coined the nickname ‘The Villagers’), junior leagues and more recently, the Shepherd Neame Merit Tables, this year coming runners up in Kent Rural B League and therefore aiming for promotion next season.
