Kent Young Coach Certificate Course Applications welcome

Kent Young Coach Certificate Course.

Kent County is offering the opportunity for 20 young individuals (14-18 years old) to apply for the Kent Young Coach Certificate Course.

Aim

To offer an opportunity for young people to embark on a fully-funded and highly experiential coach development pathway.

Objectives

By the end of the programme, participants will:

  • Have completed a range of formal and informal coach development inputs
  • Have gained practical experience in coaching rugby

Who is the programme for?

Any young person aged 14-18 with an interest in coaching rugby.  The programme represents an excellent opportunity for those involved in rugby, DofE Awards and sports-related academic study. 

Pre-requisites

Evidence will be required of:

  • Age 14 – 18 (can be verified through GMS.)
  • An appropriate coaching placement arranged with own or local club 

Programme outline:

Participants will complete a range of formal and informal learning interspersed with opportunities to practically apply learning and skills.

The table below gives an overview of programme content and indicative time commitment

Participants will also be required to complete the following online learning modules Prior to the commencement of the course:

  • World Rugby online “Rugby Ready” course
  • World Rugby online Fundamentals of Coaching course
  • RFU Headcase online course

Completion and progression

Participants who complete the course requirements will be awarded the Kent Rugby Young Coach Certificate.  All successful participants will be invited to a recognition and celebration event.

Kent Rugby will continue to track engagement in coaching beyond the programme and at age 16 or over, participants who have delivered at least 30 hours of coaching delivery and have a letter of recommendation from their Club Coaching Coordinator (CCC), may be eligible for full funding for the England Rugby Coaching Award (Level 2).

Application

An application form needs to be filled in accompanied by evidence of meeting the programme pre-requisites.  The programme will run once each season and will offer a maximum of 20 places.  In the event of over-subscription, participants will be chosen based on the content of their application and strength of a personal statement.

Closing date for applications is the 18th Feb with results being announced on the 22nd Feb.
