The third annual Tracy Pettingale Cup, kindly sponsored again by Kelsey Publishing, proved to be another excellent showcase of U18 girls’ rugby across the county. The East v West fixture, which forms part of the Kent U18s programme, delivered a high-quality and competitive game, with West ultimately taking the honours in a well-contested match.
The fixture plays an important role within the player development pathway, providing players with the opportunity to represent at county level and progress towards the final stage of the programme.
During the evening, Tracy Pettingale spoke to the players to inspire them, saying:
When I first got involved in rugby, I had no idea where it might lead. That’s why this cup means so much to me—because with the right attitude, hard work and belief, the game can take you further than you might ever expect.
The evening highlighted not only individual skill but also strong teamwork and game awareness from both sides. The standard on display demonstrated the depth of talent currently developing within the Kent pathway.

It was particularly encouraging to see the Women’s County Coach in attendance, observing players who are beginning to transition towards the senior women’s programme.
The fixture could not have happened without the dedication of the coaching teams, and special thanks go to Adam Vosper and his team for their guidance, preparation, and support of all the players.
While the majority of players represented Kent, a number of additional players were invited from local clubs to ensure full squads. Their inclusion added further strength and balance to the fixture, and they integrated seamlessly into both teams.
There were several standout performances across the pitch, with players showing confidence, physicality and a willingness to play attacking rugby. Just as importantly, the game was played in a positive and respectful spirit, reflecting the values of the game.
The evening was well supported by a strong group of parents and supporters, whose encouragement from the touchline added to the occasion. The camaraderie on display—both among the players and those supporting them—was a real credit to the game and to the rugby community in Kent.
The fixture continues to grow in stature each year and remains an important part of the development pathway, providing players with the opportunity to experience representative rugby and aspire to the next level.
